Why Intel Not Found Boxer Team?

January 17th, 2011

The global IT company Intel now sponsors YoHwan Lim(Boxer) as a main sponsor.

Intel has announced it on last 13th and will provide Boxer the annual salary and a practice room for the members.

However Intel has not founded a team with him unlike Orion and SK Telecom had done in the past. Intel Korea cited lack of experience as a reason. “Intel is interested in Boxer and is willing to help him out to achieve a great success. But we do not have any knowledge or experience with regard to founding an e-sports team,” said SungMin Park the executive director of Intel Korea. “We thought ?it is a good time to have a sponsorship for both Boxer and Intel. It will be a great experience for another sponsorship or founding a team later.”

430,000 Watched BoxeR’s Debut Game

October 19th, 2010

YoHwan Lim(SlayerS_BoxeR) proved himself still alive.

On Oct. 18th, GomTV, a broadcaster of <Starcraft 2>, experienced overflow of traffic due to Lim’s first official debut game in <Starcraft 2> and eventually could not transmit his game fully. His VOD(Video on demand) also gathered a lot of traffic after the match.

GSL has blossomed with Lim’s effect but GomTV could not stand the effect. The CCU(concurrent?user) of GSL broadcast yesterday(18th) was more than 10,000. Due to the traffic flood, live broadcast was either disconnected or lagged so much.

Korean fans who were not able to watch it through GomTV found an overseas streaming site, which only less than a hundred were watching from, and more than 13,000 fans have visited there in a short time.

Fortunately, Lim’s game was the last game of the first day of GSL. Can’t imagine the effect that might caused by his game if it was the first game of the day.

Notification of GomTV for server maintenance.

For reference, 430,000 fans watched Lim’s VOD and rated 9.9 out of 10.0. Fruit Dealer’s VOD of last season of GSL, rated 9.3, has been watched 110,000 times which is just a quarter of Lim’s VOD.

His VOD was watched for more than 100,000 times within a hour, and that is even faster rate than which #1 downloaded VOD so far was watched for.

“I have never seen such a traffic ever. The server down is my fault,” said the leader of service team of GomTV.

Boxer’s Moving Marines Fires GSL

October 19th, 2010

SlayerS_Boxer, YoHwan Lim, defeated HeeDoo Hwang by 2 to 0 and is promoted to the round of 32 of Global Starcraft 2 League.

His fast assault with 3 marines and a SCV under Boxer’s unique micro control damaged the opponent’s base at an early time. He finished the second game with his icon unit, medivac.

Fruit Dealer, WonKi Kim, the champion of first season of GSL, also won the round of 64 without a hard time.

Thisisgame interviewed YoHwan Lim after the match.

Congratulation, what do you feel of being promoted to the round of 32? I hope not to meet with Protoss next time. I am not perfectly ready against Protoss yet. I hope Jun Park defeat the Protoss player. The first game was not quite good although the early 3 marine assault damaged the opponent successfully. The second game went as I wished it to be as my tension got released.

How long have you been practicing? After the final match of pro league. I had a lot of time to think. I played it to kill some time.

What made you to play <Starcraft 2>? It’s the fans. I had to decide either becoming a coach or playing other game when I saw the fans leaving. My decision is to show them my play. I am still hungry.

You mean, being a 30s pro gamer? Indeed, I have not kept the promise yet and am still hungry.

What is the biggest difference in <Starcraft 2>? Obviously the interface that turned 2D into 3D. The damage had been reduced according to the size of unit in <Starcraft>, but now it adds bonus damage with a full damage in <Starcraft 2>. So the battle ends in a second.

How far do you think you can go if you do not match with a Protoss player next time? Not ready against Protoss does not mean I am not good enough against Protoss. I believe I can get the code s if I meet desired players.

Is there any players you do not want to match against? I hope not to play against who have practiced many times with me. Since I am alone, it’s very hard to do it all alone. Gathering a team or players would be my urgent need.

Do you have special?strategies for later? The fans love to watch my unique and unusual strategy but that won’t let me go higher. I also love to play with an unusual strategy but sometimes I have to play?seriously in order to win.

If I win with an unique strategy, it spreads in an instant via replay file. So honestly I do not want to create an unique?strategy?any more. The system of <Starcraft 2> is too good for people to imitate the player’s strategy. Then the game will not be fun any more. It should be fixed.

You seem not like exposing build order of the present replay system. Honestly I cannot understand why it needs to be so detail as it is now. I guess it is for fast popularization but it is very bad for pro gamers because we need number of accounts in order to hide our strategies when we practice.

What do you think about Fruit Dealer? He’s foxy. He plays the ladder game for searching strategy and practice seriously only with own team mates. I guess he worries for exposing strategy. I hope to see him at the high place.
