NCsoft focuses on Chinese market and mobile games in 2013

February 6th, 2013

According to NCsoft 3rd quarter 2012 earnings report, the earnings were increased with the releases of Blade & Soul, Guild Wars 2. Lineage, the oldest game of the company, generated the incredible amount of revenue more than the revenue from Linage 2 and Aion.

The total revenue during the term is 188.2 billion Korean Won (About US$173 million), which 23% was increased compared to the last year same period.

The primary goal for the year 2013 for NCsoft is the successful launching of Guild War 2 and Blade & Soul to China and other Asian countries. Blade & Soul for China will be F2P unlike Korea and heavily localized for China as well. NCsoft chose different publishers for both games – Tencent for Blade & Soul, Kongzhong for Guild War 2 – because Tencent has too many MMORPGs to launch this year include Archeage.

NCsoft will focus on mobile game market as well since the company declared the year 2013 as the first year to enter into the mobile game market. Ncsoft is developing Linage: The second Moon for mobile with GREE and various mobile games will be come from Ntreev, a subsidiary company.

For the western online game market, Wild Star from Carbine Studios is coming.

Hacking Ignited Unintended Clamor against Low Probability

January 6th, 2012

A player of a baseball management game <Pro Baseball Manager> has been banned forever because he has purportedly purchased enormous amount of in-game items through hacking.

Funnily, the players of the game are lifting their voice against Ntreev instead of the illegal player because the probability of the baseball player cards became known extremely lower than ever thought.

A message that the account is banned untill December 31, 9999

The hacker argued that even 1 trillion PT(in-game currency) cannot get you what you want and posted a screenshot of his permanent suspension until December 31, 9999.

Then Ntreev said “The exact money the player created by the hacking was 97 million PT. And we are currently working on whether he used all the money to buy the cards.”

The cards grant additional ability to the players’ teams if certain conditions meet such as collecting whole cards of a favorite team of the same year. And as better cards are obviously rarer, the players have shelled out for better and better cards in order to make their teams the best.

Need 39,000 PT to draw a card.

So let’s calculate. You need 39,000 PT to get a chance to draw a card out of diverse levels. According to Ntreev’s report, he generated 97M PT. So he could gamble at least 2487 times. But he insists that he has failed to get a single superb card out of 2487 chances.

Then other players are complaining about the extremely low probability with explosive amount of posts for a day.

“We have acknowledged the complaint of the probability of the cards. But the system is not malicious at all,” said an official from Ntreev. “We have further enhanced our protection because there was another trial of hacking. The trial did not penetrate our server this time. We are going to review what to do against the malicious players.”

NCsoft likely Take Over Ntreev Soft

July 8th, 2011

NCsoft is trying to acquire Ntreev Soft, the developer  of <Pangya> <Trickster> and <Alicia>.

NCsoft and SK Telecom, the holding comapny of Ntreev Soft, are talking about it and it would be concluded within this month.

SK Telecom has been trying to sell Ntreev Soft since last year. Major game companies like NCsoft, NHN, and Nexon has expressed their intention and NCsoft has recently been selected as the priority. SK Telecom owns 63.7% shares of Ntreev Soft and would sell all of them to the buyer.

Why NCsoft are so interested in Ntreev Soft?

Simplely, casual games and baseball.

NCsoft has always failed launching casual online games successfully and has recently established professional baseball team.

Ntreev Soft has successfully launched casual online games such as golf game <Pangya>, horse racing game <Alicia>, and baseball game <Pro Baseball Manager>.

Moreover <Pro Baseball Manager> makes more than US$ 2.8m monthly which is about 6% of Ntreev’s this year’s prospective sales.

So, why not?
