New Chairman for Korean e-sports association

Byung-hyun, Jeon, a member of the national, takes office as the chairman of Korean e-sports Association. He said “I want to resolve the negative aspects of games through e-sports” at the inaugural ceremony.

At the ceremony, several people from the government attended and Young-ho, Lee aka Flash in Starcraft 2 pro-gaming world attended as the representative of all Pro-gamers as well.

He also said Korean e-sports need to change to overcome the slump in recent years. He also insisted that the new plan for e-sports environment and the establishment of the system are needed to turn around. Therefore, he proposed 4 visions such as ▶Better communication ▶Build stronger organization throughout the county ▶Better supporting for Amateur e-sports ▶Build stronger association financially.

Chaos Online is getting improved

Chaos Online, AOS game that developed by Neoact and published by Sesisoft, Nexon, went to Indonesia and China. Chaos is the Korean version of DOTA and originated from Warcraft III mod as well. Chaos Online is a stand-alone online version of Chaos.

It launched 2 years after League of Legends (LOL) came out in 2009. They adopted a few strengths of LOL and made up for the weakness. The unique feature of Chaos Online is the dynamic play style from anti-magic potions, a dispel staff, invincible effect of town portal.

The reason starting the service in Indonesia first over China and Japan is that Indonesia has similar PC Bang cultures and gamers inclination like Korea. On the other hand, The company chose Indonesia first to test the game under the harsh condition because IT infrastructure is a bit behind among Asian countries. The company focused on the regional PC Bang tournament because there is almost none portal web site in Indonesia.

CBT for China was started on the 7th of August. Haopang, a subsidiary of Shanda Games, is Chinese publisher. They chose Haopang because it knows e-sports well. Asiasoft, SE Asian publisher of the game, also understands e-sports well and has e-sports TV channel called Cybergames. The feedbacks from Chinese gamers are similar to games in Korea. They like the style of how the game is played and graphics.

The ultimate goal for Chaos Online will be hosting the world tournament. As a first step, Chaos Online will be presented at WCG 2012 as a demonstration sport. Korean team will play against the champion of Pre-league in China as an event match.

The game will be published in SE Asian countries includes Thailand on September and in Taiwan on December. Various features for e-Sports will be added until the first half of 2013. Chapter 3 update will be released in November.

Booth registration for GStar 2012 is closed

If you have a plan to have a booth at G-Star 2012, your chance is not left. According to G-Star organization, B2B registration has been closed due to the exceeded requests.

99% of B2C booth was reserved already while 105% booth was reserved for B2B. The notable companies that will be presented at B2C are Joymax, Blizzard, Neowiz, Wemade, NHN, Nexon, Neople, Wargaming etc. Especially, there will be typical domestic mobile game companies such as SK Planet, Com2uS, Gamevil etc. B2B booth area has been increased about 30% compared to the last year.

The pre-registration for buyers will be started from the end of September through the official G-Star homepage – www.gstar.or.kr

At G-Star 2012, there will be 2 big e-sports events as well – <League of Legends> opening event for the Champions Winter and GNGWC finals.

Riot Games Asia donates $432,900 for preserving Korean cultural heritages.

Riot Games Asia made an agreement to support $432,900 for preserving the cultural assets from kings’ family with Cultural Heritages Administration in Korea. In addition, the company will cooperate educating youth about cultural heritages.

Riot Games Asia promised that they will return a part of League of Legends revenue to the society when they launched the game on the last September. $432,900 is from the revenue of selling Ahri for 6 months with an additional donation.

The donation will be used for the preservation works of cultural heritages and improving facilities at the national old palace museum.

Mr.Chan Kim from Cultural Heritages Administration said “Games are the industry of cultural contents. I think the base of cultural contents is cultural heritages and the history from time immemorial. I believe Riot Games Asia will be doing great because they understand it well.

Riot Games Asia told that they will keep preparing plans for returning something to the society in Korea.

How long will Diablo3 fever go?

Diablo3 fever hits Korea high since launching. The question is how long it will be? We asked it to 230 industry people. They consist of developers and business men.
About 90% of the participants answer that Diablo3 is succeeded beyond their prediction. Business people surprised 6.6% more than developers.

The result of Diablo3′s success was expected or more than expected, 89.5%

About how long Diablo3 fever will go, 30% predicted that it will go until June while 17% answers until the next year. Business people predicted it will be getting cold any time soon, while developers predicted it will go until the summer vacation. Participants who did not play Diablo3 predicted more that it won’t last long than participants who play it.

Could Diablo3 keep providing new contents often?

More than the half of participants chose the lack of contents as the main reason people will quit to play Diablo3 because it is a package game not an online game.

After Diablo3 fever becomes stable at PC Bang, 41.8% participants predicted PC Bang occupying rate of Diablo3 will be over 16%, which could be #1 at PC Bang. 18.7% answers it will be between 11~15%, which could be top5 at PC Bang.

PC Bang owners & Item trade sites is also happy with Diablo3′s success

Beside Blizzard, who is getting most benefits from Diablo3’s success? 41.2% of the total participants answer PC Bang owners. 35.2% Developers answer item trade sites, while 29.4% business men agreed.

PC Bang occupying rate for LOL is down from 20% to 11% because of Diablo3

Then who is getting most damages from Diablo3’s success? Participants chose League of Legends overwhelmingly and the next is Aion.

Who might be the crises for Diablo3’s continuing success? While 49.6% answer it won’t affected by external factors, 26.5% chose Blade&Soul OBT in June.
