Korean companies at E3 2012

Which Korean online game companies will be appeared at E3 2012? Nexon, Wemade, CJ E&M, Eastsoft, Bluehole Studio will be there.

Nexon brings ‘Dungeon&Fighters Live’ for Xbox360 at E3 and will be held media showcase on the 6th of June. ‘Dungeon&Fighters Live’ is similar to its online game version, but supports 720p for TV. It supports single play as well as party play through Xbox Live.

Wemade Entertainment will announce 8 mobile games – ‘Choas&Defense’, ‘Goblin Mobile’, ‘Friend Fighter’, ‘Pet Island’, ‘Hero Square’, ‘Rhythm Scandal’, and ‘Project Q’ for the first time.

CJ E&M will introduce various online games includes ‘S2 Online’, ‘Bloody Hunter’, and a Roleplaying Shooting ‘Hounds’, MMORPG ‘Monarch’. Eastsoft will bring ‘Cabal 2’, which ended CBT last November. Bluehole Studio will have a booth for ‘Tera’, while Maiet Entertainment will show ‘Raiderz‘ at Perfectworld booth.

Former Lineage3 developers are guilty

Supreme Court confirm the original verdict that former Lineage3 Development Team members’ suspicion of leaking Lineage3 Trade secret on the 16th of April. The suit was leaded by the prosecution not by NCSoft.

The prosecution appealed against the decision of the court of first instance that some are acquitted in June, 2009. High Court judged them guilty again and some of them received tougher punishment than the court of first instance.

Supreme Court only confirms the case is guilty or not. The former head of department was sentenced to one and half year in prison with 2 years of probation. The former team manager of development was found not guilty at the court of first instance, but sentenced 8 months in prison with 2 years of probation at High Court. Some of team members was fined US$6,100~8,800.

A person from NCSoft said “Leaking trade secret is the important issue of life or death to the company. The judgment from Supreme Court could establish a good precedent to people who work at IT companies where resignation and changing jobs are common depends on the success of the project.”

Beside of the prosecution’s suit, the civil case for damages leaded by NCSoft is waited for the court’s ruling. NCSoft claim damages of US 5.7 million against Bluehole Studios, the developer of TERA. NCsoft won the original trial, but Bluehole Studio won the second trial.

Ubisoft Signs TERA Package for EU

Bluehole Studio announced on 4th that Ubisoft will be resposible for the pacakge distribution of its MMORPG <TERA> in Europe.

So the original publisher of <TERA> in Europe, Frogster, will only take care of service, marketing, online distribution.

<TERA> in Europe will be published in three different langauges, English, French, and German, to 27 countries.

“<TERA> is a game of outstanding graphic and one that significantly expanded the field of ?MMORPG genre. We are so glad to introduce <TERA> to European gamers and are looking forward to positive feedback,” said an Ubisoft official.

“Ubisoft’s greatness in distribution network and credibility in Europe would help <TERA> to be widely distributed. We will do our best to achieve meaningful result with game itself and quality of service,” said KangSuk Kim the CEO of Bluehole Studio.

Welcome to TERA

<TERA> developed by Bluehole Studio and published in Korea by NHN is open for commercial service today(January 25).

With opening the gate of <TERA>, it updated massive content such as uncapped max level to 50, new territories like Shara and Alemansia(unofficial names), 15 new fields, 2 new instanced dungeons, new weapons and armors, new skills for each classes, PvP arenas for 5v5 and 10v10, and politic system.

“We will provide another fun and joy to the fan by updating new content and many features additionally through the commercial service. As <TERA> finally launched the commercial service after all the tests, we will put our all effort in providing stable service to our fans,” said the spokesman of Wook Jung the CEO of Hangame.

Bluehole Is Not Guilty For Lineage 3

The result of the <Lineage 3> civil suit has been overturned.

The NCsoft’s suit, which has sued Bluehole Studio and 11 <Lineage 3> ex-developers for the loss from leaving in group and discarding the trade secret, had won at the first trial in January 2010. And Bluehole Studio and 4 major developers had appealed against the decision.

The second trial took place on January 19 has ruled in favor of the Bluehole Studio but has still commended to discard all the trade secret asserted by NCsoft.

In conclusion, the latest trial has agreed the leak of the trade secret but not the loss of <Lineage 3>.

The lawsuit has been spotlighted from the game industry as it is the first precedent that a company called ?individuals who left in group and company they are?employed now?to account.

“First of all, we appreciate the smart decision made by the court. And we are also looking forward to <TERA>’s success as the good decision has been made before its commercial service,” said Bluehole Studio.

“We respect the decision about the loss due to the leak of the trade secret. But it is very regrettable that our loss from the leaving in group was not counted. We would like to appeal after?receive?the sentencing,” said NCsoft.
