Baseball White Paper from NCsoft for Dinos Fans

September 1st, 2011

As you all may know, NCsoft founded a professioinal baseball team ‘NC Dinos’ in Korea. As a part of marketing I guess, NCsoft introduced a baseball white paper iPad application called ‘iAction Book’.

You can watch its teaser video at here.

iAction Book provides baseball terminologies, stories, guides, quizzes, mini games, and so on in order for beginner baseball fans to understand everything about baseball much easier.

NCsoft has recently strengthened smartphone and tablet PC markets. TaekJin Kim the CEO of NCsoft also has said “We have to change and focuse on mobile environment.” It also made smartphone applications for web game <Might and Magic Heroes Kingdoms> and social music service 24hz, and contents of <Blade & Soul> and <Guild Wars 2> are also going to be out on mobile platforms.

Therefore I guess NCsoft should be called an entertainment conglomerate encompassing game, music, sports in multiple platforms and genres instead of a game developer.

SK Communications Funds US$9m for SNG

April 4th, 2011

SK Communications announced its investmon on social network application at the social game March party on last March 26. Its size is US$9m which is 10 times to what it used to be last year. About US$0.1~0.2m will be given to each selected developer.

The main candidates are the follow-up of SNGs which have already attained some goals. Ones already developed enough to begin servicing immediately and likley to hit are exceptionally included.

Especailly apps that support both web and mobile will gain additional points at the evaluation. YoungEul Kim general manager said “We will support unsparingly to those support web and mobile.”

He added that the reasons he emphasizes the interlocking web and mobile are demand of the users and availability of promotion in both fields at the same time which results better revenue.

A social game <Pet Farm> already examplified his opinion. It had attained similar revenue from both Nate Appstore since August 2010 and Naver Appstore since last October. But it has grown 4 times as it launched its application for Android through T-store and started interlocking with Nate Appstore.

Meanwhile, there is an opinion that developing mobile and web application simultaneously is difficult in both technique and a timely manner.

“The social games frequently cause long loading time and disconnection when it transfers to other platform. In particular, the social games need fast update but developing both platforms will slow down the speed. For stable service, building a foundation for favorite platform first and then aiming the next platform is favorable,” said KiSung Park the director of Polycube.
