Nexon becomes the major holder of NCsoft

Nexon acquires 14.7% of NCsoft shares and becomes the major holder of NCsoft. As Nexon purchased a part of shares from Taek-jin Kim at US$687 million, CEO of NCsoft, his share rate has been lowered from 24.69% to 9.99%.

This acceptance of stock is the biggest deal among Korean game companies. Since they share the market (Nexon for casual, NCsoft for MMO market), people saw it as cooperation deal rather than a simple share investor.

Seung-woo Choi, CEO of Nexon Japan, said “This investment combined the development power from NCsoft and the Global publishing platform from Nexon. Both companies will keep trying to deliver the best game play experiences for sure.”

Taek-jin Kim, CEO of NCsoft, said “This partnership will create the strong synergy effect at Korean gaming market as well as the world by combining the development power from NCsoft and the Global publishing platform from Nexon.”

Regardless of the acceptance of stock, Taek-jin Kim will remain as CEO for NCsoft and Blade&Soul OBT will start on the 21st of June.
