[Korea] Weekly Update for 6/28

1. Astonishia Online (2nd CBT 7/1)

A week delayed than planned yet online adaption of its popular RPG ‘Astonishia Story’ in 1994. The game definitely has potential but some issues such as latency, bugs, quite simple gameplay exposes the developer’s shortcoming.

2. Lunia Z

A four-year old game, Lunia: Record of War, is getting a full body lift. Lunia Z is hosting a press conference on June 29th in Korea. A Korean publisher Nexon claimed it is close to a brand new game.

3. Bolts & Blip Online


  • Developer/Publisher: Dragonfly

Dragonfly unveils a new online game based on 3D animation with same title during the move premier on June 29th in Korea. The 3D TV animation is co-produced by redrouer and Toonbox Entertainment. The game will also features 3D graphics.

4. Maple Story

  • Developer/Publisher: Nexon

A seven-year old megahit Maple Story hosts a press conference on July 1st in Korea for its update.

[EA] FIFA Online Now Available

EA announced today that EA SPORTS FIFA Online , the first downloadable FIFA football game designed for PC , is available to football fans everywhere around the world to play for free.

Since February 3, more than 20,000 football fans across Europe have participated in the Closed Beta development and testing of FIFA Online and that number is expected to grow to hundreds of thousands of fans. Additional content will be designed for the game based on feedback by fans.

EA SPORTS FIFA Online is developed by EA Canada and EA Singapore.

THQ today announced the evolution of its critically acclaimed real-time strategy game, Company of Heroes?, into a unique free-to-play micro-transaction online multiplayer experience scheduled for release in the North American market this fall.

Developed by THQ’s Relic Entertainment studio, creators of the award-winning Company of Heroes and Dawn of War franchises, Company of Heroes Online is an online multiplayer real-time-strategy game that is free to download and play. Building on the frenetic Real-Time-Strategy action of the original Company of Heroes, Company of Heroes Online offers army specialization, commander customization, and persistent progression, allowing players to strategize on and off the battlefield. Players will also have the opportunity to earn or purchase special units and upgrades and improve their army with each and every multiplayer victory.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced today that Turbine, Inc. will unveil a major update this fall, making The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) free-to-play for everyone. Extending its award-winning story, LOTRO delivers the ultimate adventure featuring a massive world with state-of-the-art graphics and gameplay, and a rich set of features that until now could only be found in premium subscription-based online games.

Launching this fall across North America and Europe, with Codemasters operating the game free-to-play in Europe,?LOTRO will introduce Turbine’s innovative new pricing model that allows players to download the game and play for free, purchase expansions, quest packs, items, and account services a la carte from the new?LOTRO Store, or join the VIP program to get unlimited access to all of the game’s content for one low price. [Korea] Summer Rush of Side-Scrolling Games

More than 7 side-scrolling online games are awaiting for summer vacation season in Korea. Amid World Cup frenzy (soccer is big in Korea) and much-anticipated StarCraft 2 on July, most publishers are entrenched to wait this over. But side-scrolling games that target younger crowd, summer break is too big of an opportunity just to pass.

Games in case: CJ Internet‘s Seoyugi (Saiyuki or 서유기전:Kor) recently kicked off OBT. NCsoft‘s Punch Monster and Dragonica, Goorm Interactive‘s Keroro RPG (케로로 RPG: Kor), Mgame‘s Animal Warriors, CJ Internet‘s After 537: Oz Chronicle, NHN‘s GranAge all plan to begin CBT or OBT during this summer break. And possibly more to come.
